Small Madonna and Child Statue, Black Madonna, Height 8.6cm, Infant Jesus, Montserrat Monastery, Neo-Gothic Souvenir, Vintage, Antique / K590 ●Size: Height: 8.6cm, Base: 3.3cm x 3.3cm, 141g ●Material: Copper alloy (spelter type, bronze-like finish), sand casting Acquired at a European antique market. Metal Madonna and Child statue, circa 1920-1940. A souvenir item sold at Montserrat, a Catholic holy site. Known as the patron saint of Catalonia, famous for Gaudí's World Heritage architecture. The statue of the Virgin of Montserrat has a legendary and very mysterious story. Legend of Montserrat: On a Saturday in 880, shepherds saw a strong light and beautiful music in the sky. The following Saturday, it was repeated, and when the bishop investigated the place where the light and music were heard, a carved Black Madonna and Child statue was found. They tried to move it down to the town at the foot of the mountain, but it was too heavy to move, so a chapel was built. Please use this as a reference or for remakes. We handle many rare old saint statues that are not commonly seen in Japan. Please check the photos for details. We ask for your understanding that this is an old item before bidding.
